Medion, the mid-range laptop producer who sell great machines at surprisingly low prices, yesterday announced the Akoya P8610 at Dolby’s sound laboratories in deepest darkest Soho. It’s a whopping 18.4″ beast of a machine, with Blu-ray drive, and some awesome Dolby sound-enhancing technology. Let’s take a look in more detail.

The aforementioned 18.4″ screen runs at 1,680 x 945 resolution, which the astute among you will recognise as 16:9 aspect ratio. The Dolby audio system will happily output in 5.1 surround, or alternatively you can use the surround virtualisation filter on a stereo signal to make it sound like it’s a surround source, either on a speaker system or on headphones.

I love Medion. They always manage to put out technology with really good specs that doesn’t cost the earth. This Sat Nav is rather pricy compared to its competitors. It’s got some nifty features, though, and a whopping 5″ screen, to compensate.

Let’s start with the price. £175. That’s more than double the price of some of the other sat navs on the market, according to a quick Amazon search. So what are you getting for your cash?

The MEDION AKOYA P7300D is a bit of a beast. It packs in a 2.33GHz Intel Q8200 Core 2 Quad processor, Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit edition, a more-than-even-Vista-needs 4GB of DDR II SDRAM RAM and a 1TB hard drive.

Those BIG, MACHO NUMBERS are made to look even bigger by the AKOYA’s relatively tiny price of just £499.99. It’ll only be available at budget imported German baked beans shifter Aldi, appropriately enough, where it launches on November 27…

So here's a look at the whole lot of them. This is my first go at doing an image gallery, by the way. Please be gentle if it's a bit broken.
