EU helping reduce your Vodafone direct debit – proposes capping roaming SMS and data fees

Viviane_Reding_using-fixed-internet.jpg

The EU is once again aiming its twin bureaucracy cannons at the mobile industry, this time planning a crackdown on roaming fees charged when users TXT THER M8s from holiday.

The EU, lead by a rampaging Viviane Reding, has already signalled its intentions to attack rip-off roaming fees, but now we have facts – a cap of 11 euro cents (8p) per roaming text is proposed, a 62% reduction on the current average roaming fee of 29 cents…

EC wants to scrap text message roaming charges

text.jpgWe already know that text message pricing is a great big rip-off, but when roaming in Europe it’s even worse, with some users being charged up to 63p per message sent, and even having to pay to receive them.

The European Telecoms Commissioner, Viviane Reding, isn’t at all happy about this, and has added the cost of SMS roaming charges to the long list of things she’d like to see mobile phone operators cut the cost of, or abolish…

Queues are building up outside Apple’s flagship store in Regent Street, London. Well, OK, there was one person in a bright yellow cocoon in this photo, but apparently they’re arriving in droves now, with as many as TEN people sighted.

You do know you have to pay for this iPhone, right?

"PSP needs more games" says Sony boss – and he is doing something about it

sony-psp-needs-more-games-david-reeves.jpg

I’m glad I bought my PSP, honestly. The majestic Lumines and Lumines II were worth the price of the handheld alone. And good job too – there’s nothing else on the machine worth playing*.

The lack of original games is hurting Sony. While PSP sells well around the world, its software sales are nothing like those of the competition. This is thanks to the PSP charts being full of uninspired big console ports like FIFA 08, Need for Speed…

Metal Gear Online beta test coming to Europe – next week. And free

metal-gear-online-beta-test-europe-go-go-go.jpg

Sony releases its revamped PlayStation Store next week, and there’ll be one quite HUGE surprise waiting to be downloaded – a free beta test version of Metal Gear Online.

Not to be confused with the imminent Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Online is an entirely new and separate game for PS3. It’s online. As you might have guessed. It’s entirely multiplayer. It’s going to get PS3 owners excited…

Don't buy a PlayStation3 just yet – GTA IV bundle coming on April 29

gta-iv_ps3-bundle-europe.jpg

Is GTA IV the game that could shift PS3 out of its current sales and perceptual malaise? The little bundle pictured there appeared on European retailers yesterday, and could well help Sony get its PlayStation business back on track.

Sadly it’s only the 40GB model, and there’s an old-fashioned SIXAXIS in the box rather than a new DualShock3, but that’s just your standard example of how badly Sony got things with PS3. With a copy of GTA IV in the box…

Xbox 360 price cut – £159.99 in the UK from Friday

xbox-360-uk-price-cut-arcade-159.jpg

Crikey, that is cheap. Cheaper than the Wii and nearly half what Sony’s charging for a PlayStation3.

Of course, the new £159 refers to the entry level “Arcade” Xbox 360, which doesn’t come with a hard drive. But it does, fortunately, come with a 256MB memory card, so you’re still able to save your games. And a wireless controller. So you can play them…

It's a good time to be European, with the prospect of an Xbox 360 price cut looming

xbox-360-price-cut.jpg

Hey, it’s another reason why we should be thankful for living in the UK or Europe! Websites are currently reporting that as of this Easter, the Xbox 360 Arcade console from Microsoft will be getting a price-cut of €50 (or £38), bringing it to only £150 for us Brits.

Which is, as you know, £30 cheaper than the Nintendo Wii. What this will do to the Xbox 360 brand is anyone’s guess, however making it cheaper than the most affordable, family-friendly console is bound to win it points from frazzled mums at Chrimbo time, but lose points from 360 fanboys who will…
