HP Elitebook 6930p with 24hr battery life is the Jack Bauer of laptops

hp-battery.jpg

That’s right – 24 hours. What could you do on a laptop in 24 hours? You could listen to 432 songs, or watch 11 films, or even make money on the internet. Except you probably couldn’t do those things, because published battery life always assumes a computer just sitting there, not doing anything. Using speakers, WiFi or the DVD drive, or anything will drain that battery faster…

The latest burning tech: Sony recalls dodgy Vaio laptops

sony_vaio_tz_on_fire.jpg

Cast your mind back to the number of notebook batteries recalled last year due to the risk of them exploding and taking out delicate bits of anatomy on the way.

One seriously affected company was Sony, and it seems the company’s woes aren’t over yet. It’s just recalled 73,000 Vaio TZ-Series laptops sold in the US because of the potential risk of a short-circuit of wires near the hinge that could lead to users being burnt.

The telltale sign of a problem is if there’s a loose screw in the hinge. Loose, possibly, because it’s been touching up electric cables…

Sanyo has announced it’s bringing this (possibly alien) wireless charging technology to Wii, using a variant of the fantastic Eneloop battery and a “magnetic induction” (MAGIC for short) pad. So, instead of…

According to Tech-On, over nine in ten Japanese consumers won’t buy the iPhone 3G when it launches, primarily because it does not have a removable battery. At least, that’s the conclusion drawn by Daimaou, writing at Akihabara News, who is incensed at the survey.

The survey of 402 people asked questions including “Do you prefer replaceable batteries?”, for which three-quarters of respondents said they did, and then seemingly drew the conclusion that most consumers wouldn’t buy the iPhone 3G…

Eee 900 battery issue not as bad as first thought, only five people complained to ASUS apparently

eee-pc-900.jpg

In his video review of the Eee 900, Dan noted that he was slightly disappointed with the battery life. Several other people have also commented on this downfall in the otherwise-amazing sub-notebook, causing ASUS to generously offer a brand new, better battery, for just £10.

However, when I spoke to an anonymous source at ASUS this morning, I was told that only five people had complained to the company about the battery life, so either everyone has very low expectations on a laptop’s battery life (I know I have, after many bad experiences with machines); only five people own an Eee 900; or everyone is using the little fella connected to a power source…
