10 accessories Nintendo should add to the Wii

The Nintendo Wii is an insanely popular gaming console, but there’s always room for improvement, right?

Here are ten bits of kit Nintendo could add to he Wii console to make it even more versatile – ranging from the fairly sensible to the downright weird.

What would you add to the Wii?

1. Bluetooth Headset

OK, so this one is pretty sensible, and you’d think would be fairly easy for Nintendo to create and market.

I know there’s the Wii Speak, but perhaps you’d like to have a more private conversation with someone about subjects more personal than Animal Crossing.

2. WiiPhone

A few years ago we didn’t think Apple would venture into the mobile phone market, but it happened.

Nintendo has denied that it will ever get into telephony, but it wouldn’t be hard to hook up a telephone interface to the Wii and use the controller to dial your numbers.

After all, it’s likely that not everyone you want to talk to has a Wii, and it’s just so much effort to pick up the real phone when you’re constantly attached to the Wii.

The Wacom Nextbeat wireless controller for DJs

wacom-nextbeat.jpg

Wacom, best known for its graphics tablets has suddenly and unexpectedly announced that it’s bringing out a completely different bit of hardware – a DJ controller.

The Wacom Nextbeat contains a pair of digital audio players, a mixer, a sampler and some fx units. All you need to add is a phat pair of speakers, and you’ll be cranking out the tunes faster than you can say: “Have you got anything by the Shaman?”

The interesting bit is that the main circular unit and the dials above can actually be removed from the unit while it’s still operating. If you want to go see what it sounds like for your audience then you can do exactly that, while still retaining tight control of your mix.

It’ll be out sometime this summer in Europe and Japan, but there’s no word on how much it’ll cost. Hopefully I’ll be able to get my hands on one – as a bit of an amatueur DJ, I’d love to give this a whirl in front of an audence and see how it compares to other DJ controllers.

Microsoft’s been fiddling with the internal organs of its Xbox 360 again, with the long-rumoured “Jasper” hardware re-jig apparently rolling out across the world right now.

The new Xbox 360 – as found and disassembled by a user on Xbox-Scene – features a lower-Wattage PSU (150W instead of 175W) that’ll keep Greenpeace happy when it does its next name & shame list.

But the most thrilling enhancement for you, humble end user, is the addition of 256MB of internal flash memory…

Make Xbox 360 cooler (as in, less likely to melt through the floor) with Lan-Li's PC Modding Case

That anonymous aluminium box to the left there is the Lan-Li Xbox 360 Modding Case, a roomier bedsit for your Xbox 360 hardware to sit in.

The PC-XB01 comes with the bare-minimum spec, specifically for Xbox 360. So you get ONE 5.25″ external bay along with ZERO 3.5″ bays, but there is one saviour – a decent fan. A quiet fan. So, for once, playing…
