SHINY PREVIEW VIDEO: Samsung i8910 HD

Last night we had a sneak peak at the new Samsung i8910 HD (formerly the Omnia HD). This trendy touchscreen handset can capture video in 720p and playback HD quality video on it’s 3.7 inch AMOLED capacative touchscreen.

This Symbian based unit also supports handwriting recognition, push email and a document viewer so business folk will like it more than they like a finely tuned squash racket, which is a lot.

It comes with 8 Gig of inbuilt storage expandable by microSD. Apparently it also has a podcasting feature, which is nice, if you’re prone to an impromptu podcast.

10" Netbooks go HD with the 720p-capable Dell Mini 10

The world of netbooks has finally made it to high-definition with the announcement from Dell that its Mini 10 netbook is being souped up. Within a week or so, the option to go to a 1366×768 display resolution, which is ample for displaying 720p movies, will be offered.

Best of all, that spec jump will cost just $35 more (£24 or so). Wireless 802.11n will also be offered, alongside Bluetooth 2.1, a speedier processor and more capacious hard drive. You’ll still be stuck with Windows XP and a measly non-upgradable 1GB of RAM, though.

The new specs are available right now in the USA, so a UK launch can’t be far off.

Turn your PC into a home cinema with a USB to HDMI dongle

usb-to-hdmi-dongle.jpg

Many laptops these days are starting to arrive with HDMI ports and Blu-ray drives, so you can use your new laptop to hook up your massive 40″ telly and enjoy HD content via your PC. Many people play PC games on massive monitors, too. But what do you do if you don’t have a graphics card with a HDMI output?

You buy one of these. Plug one end into a spare USB port and the other into your TV, and voila – a 720p, or 1280 x 720, display. It’ll take care of the sound too, via the HDMI cable. Best of all, you’re not limited to just one of these – you can plug in as many as you have USB ports. Fancy rocking seven in a row? 8960 x 720 resolution!

Kodak unveils Z980 Megazoom and Zx1 mini-camcorder

kodak-dslr-mini-camcorder.jpg

Okay, ladies and gentlemen. Line up, please. Kids at the front. We’re going to take a look at a couple of new products that Kodak has dropped on us. On your left, you’ve got the Z980 entry-level point-and-shoot, and on your right is the Zx1 weatherproof mini camcorder. Which shall we look at first? The Z980? Okay.

The Z980 is a fairly basic point-and-shoot, with a few notable exceptions. First, you’ve got a generous 24X zoom, which should let you zero in from a safe distance on that girl down the road who you’ve got a crush on, but who just doesn’t seem to notice your existence.

YouTube goes full HD at last?

youtube-hd.jpg

Looks like YouTube has finally switched on full HD – at least for videos uploaded in high-definition. Going to the site now, and tracking down a video recorded in high-definition, like this one, for example, will give you a “Watch in HD” in the bottom-right corner of the video display.

The results are spectacular. Compare Hilary Duff in normal YouTube video quality, with HD, here. It’s jaw-droppingly impressive, especially when viewed fullscreen. As soon as we can, we’ll start uploading our review vids in HD, so you can get a better look at the gadgets we get sent.

InFocus debuts affordable X9 720p DLP projector

InFocus_X9_Projector.jpg

InFocus has announced its latest projector, the X9, offering high definition projection at a distinctly budget price.

Thanks to the fact that it’s a 720p projector, rather than offering 1080p high definition, it comes in at a lower price point. There’s no skimping on quality, though, as it uses Texas Instruments’ DLP technology with BrilliantColor, and offers a 2,500:1 contrast ratio, 1,800 lumens brightness, and HDMI with DeepColor support…
