coover.jpgHarry W. Coover, the inventor of the ingenius adhesive Super Glue, has died aged 94 of congestive heart failure.

Coover, who held over 460 patents, first discovered the recipe for the sticky substance in 1942 whilst working on plastic gun sights for the US military. Dismissing the findings (his creation didn't quite fit the brief for the army), Coover rediscovered the substance in 1951 with colleague Fred Joyner at the Eastman Kodak firm, finally realising its commercial and industrial potential.

So then, anyone who's accidentally broke their mother's finest crockery, or made a miniature Airfix kit, raise a glass to Mr Coover.

My little brother once Super Glue'd his hand's together. It made him cry, but that's another story for another blog entirely...

Liked playing The Sims? Then you're going to love real life, where you work all day long, pay bills, grow old and die!

OK, so that was a rather nihilistic deconstruction of our love of life and video games, but those looking to inject a little more fun into their everyday lives may want to check out GreenGoose sensors.

A health-conscious, lifestyle tracking platform, it makes use of sensors in specially built bottles and containers, a credit-card sized pedometer, and toothbrush to award the user points on an online scoreboard.

Think of it like Foursquare for teeth-brushing; it basically turns life into a role-playing game, designed to encourage users to engage in healthy living practices.

While GreenGoose points are currently worthless, the company are looking into reward partnerships with companies with which users can redeem their healthy-living with real prizes. It probably won't be a box of Dunkin Donuts or McDonalds vouchers though.

H2OT-Shower-Powered-Radio.JPG Here's an interesting eco-friendly gadget - the world's first water-pressured radio.

Designed for use in the shower, the H2O Shower Powered Radio is powered solely through water, without the need for disposable batteries.

The FM radio is powered solely through the motion of water flowing through a small H2O™ micro turbine; driving a generator that creates energy to power the radio. An integral battery recharges as the shower runs.

The radio is both economically and environmentally friendly, harvesting energy that would otherwise, literally, go straight down the drain.

It simply connects to the shower hose and is compatible with 99 per cent of all showers. H20 claims that water pressure isn't affected but we should be getting a test sample very soon to try for ourselves.

Previously showcased on TV programme Dragon's Den, the radio is the brainchild of Vivian Blick, Managing Director of Tango Group, the owners of the H2O.

H20 radio (small).jpg Inventor Vivian Blick is also a former director of Freeplay Energy Group, the company behind the commercialisation of the Wind-up Radio, which was invented by Trevor Baylis OBE in the 1990s.

Says Blick:

"Having seen huge success with the commercialisation of the Wind-Up Radio we were constantly looking into new ways that further innovations in the radio sector could be made.

Creating the now-patented micro turbine technology, that allows the radio to operate solely through the flow of water, was the key to our new innovation; and thus the world's first water-powered shower radio was created."

The H20™ Shower Powered Radio will be available to purchase from March 2011. The recommended retail price is £34.99.

Let's face it, you were never going to look cool with those silly 3D glasses they give you at the cinema. So you might as well take the power back and geek out in style - yes, by wearing a Transformers 3D mask.

Brought to us by Hasbro and Real-D, the masks have 3D lenses installed, reassuringly devoid of mouthpiece as not to get in the way of popcorn-munching. Available in Optimus Prime and Bumblebee designs, the masks mark the release of the upcoming film "Transformers: Dark of the Moon". The masks can be used to watch other 3D films too, so they are even practical.

The masks will become available this May, priced at $9.99, but it is not yet certain whether they will become available in the UK. We can only hope.

Okay so I wont be giving up my record player any time soon but I do kind of love this Soundwagon record player. Officially licensed by Volkswagen, this mini hyper-portable record player is modeled after the VW's classic bus.

The wonderfully detailed bus has a built-in needle powered by a nine volt battery, so all you need to do is drop the wagon on a record and let it ride. Check out the wagon in action above.

Now here's one of our favourite items from CES 2011; LG's ST600 Smart TV Upgrader.

All the major TV manufacturers at CES 2011 are billing web-connected and app-freindly sets as the next big thing. But what if you've already got a perfectly good HD TV set without connected features? If you can't afford the premium of a new set, LG will have you covered with their ST600 Smart TV upgrader.

A box no bigger than a 2nd-gen Apple TV, it'll hook up to any TV with a HDMI port to give it all the features of LG's latest Smart TV range. Apps, web video content, social networking; the lot.

And the best bit? It's predicted to retail for little more than £100. Great stuff.

Check it out in the video above.

Ah, Hello Kitty; how we love to fail to understand your popularity. If you like your gadget peripherals pink and cutesy, you're going to love this.

We found an entire wall devoted to Hello Kitty gear a CES 2011, featuring everything from keyboards, DVD and TV combos to rucksacks and USB laptop coolers. Bonkers stuff.

So, in what is now becoming a sort of annual Tech Digest/ Shiny Shiny CES tradition, click above for minute's worth of Hello Kitty madness.

We love the winter; it brings us closer together over the festive period, and all the best films are on the telly. But boy, are those cold, dark mornings a drag. So much so that many people suffer from what is known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) a medical condition that's brought on by a lack of natural sunlight.

Lumie, working alongside the National Trust and RSPB, think they've got the perfect solution in the form of the Bodyclock Active. They're calling it a dawn simulator, which is basically a very nifty alarm clock that fills your room with light in the morning as well as the soothing sounds of birdsong.

Jonathan Cridland, CEO of Lumie, said: "Through previous research, we've known for a long time that light can drastically improve symptoms of the winter blues and the new research from the National Trust demonstrates even more how products like Bodyclock Active can help lift the mood of millions.

"Not only will it wake them up naturally to light, but once the sunrise is fully risen it can also be set to play the therapeutic and relaxing sound of birdsong so that users can squeeze a quick five minute session in before their day fully begins.

"By bringing a bit of the outside inside through dawn simulator products like Bodyclock Active, people can make sure they still have access to important things such as a sunrise and the sound of birdsong no matter what time of the year it is - this will have a profound effect on their overall mood as well as their wellbeing."

Available on 30 day trials, you can pick the Bodyclock Active up from Boots or John Lewis. Click here for more info.

parrot dia

Parrot has just announced their latest digital photo frame: DIA, in collaboration with Jean-Louis Frechin, the founder of nodesign agency.

Frenchin described his inspiration for the beautifully designed frame stating:

"Today, screens are all the same. So, with my partner Uros Petrevski, we had to find a different type of screen, without falling into the category of 'do different just to be different'. We started to handle slide film, to dismantle screens, to play with transparency of light," explains Jean-Louis Frechin. "DIA frame was born from the idea that it is impossible to represent a printed image on a photo frame. So our frame is close to a slide film, with the quality of transparence, light and format of professional ektachrome."

The DIA, resembles a white rectangle light box, through which your photos are displayed on a 10x4 inch high resolution screen. Over all the device is kept very minimal with tactile buttons and a trackball to search in the menu of the frame.

The frame is bundled with a number of really interesting apps including Holidays 2.0. This allows you to geotag your journey on your mobile device or camera. You then upload your images to the frame, and they will appear once you fly over the country, the city or the street where the pictures were taken. This might not be the most useful app, but it certainly has a nice sentiment to it. The device also allows you to access Facebook, news, sport, etc through RSS feeds.

The DIA runs on the Android OS and has two USB ports so that you can connection a keyboard and mouse to the frame. It also has its own personal email address so you can email photos directly to the frame, making it a great gift for anyone with family living far away.

The DIA will be available in the UK from February 2011

satellite.jpgAnother day, another mad wrist watch from the folks over at Tokyo Flash. This one however, the Kisai Satellite, has one damn cool story behind it. Starting off as a mere concept piece, it received such a positive response from the Tokyo Flash community that they went ahead and made it into the real-deal.

And they don't half sell it over at the official website. According to Tokyo Flash: "The solar system was in darkness until Kisai Satellite was sent into orbit. Three vivid halos of light illuminate the pitch black interface turning a simple concept into a striking reality."

Cant argue with that really can you?

Available in black or white, the LED-lit watch costs £60. Click below for some more snaps of the Satellite.

iphone gift guide header.jpg"Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat, your iPhone should be wearing a silly iPhone hat".

OK, so that's not quite how the festive saying goes, but there are so many mad iPhone gadgets and add-ons out there that we totally wouldn't put it past some nutcase having made a Jesus Phone bobble-hat somewhere down the line.

Mostly cheap and always cheerful, here are some great stocking-filling ideas for the iPhone owner in your life this Christmas.

Pedal Juice

The Pedal Juice battery pack, from Sanyo would make a great present for any musicians in your life who use a lot of pedals.

This little device contains Sanyo's Eneloop technology inside and can power a whole slew of daisy-chained devices. Charge it up for 3.5 hours and it will provide you with 9V DC of output to whatever you like, powering a 10mA effects pedal for an amazing 50 hours. For those non-musicians that's about 10 times longer than your standard 9V battery and on top of that it will provide a constant 9V right up until it's dead. Sanyo also claims the Pedal Juice pack will create less electrical interference than using an AC adapter.

The Pedal Juice battery pack is available for $149.99

Tokyo Flash have today launched three new neon wristwatches to add to their growing range of mad time-pieces.

A bit cheaper than other Tokyo Flash watches due to the materials used (plastic rather than the usual combinations of aluminium, steel and leather) each make use of LED lighting patterns to display the time.

As ever, if anyone knows the secret to reading the faces to these wristwatches, do get in touch. I gave up trying to make sense of them after turning up two weeks late to my own birthday party.

Pick up the LightSpeed for $81.92, the Transit for $93.79 and lastly the Joypad also for $93.79.

Turn Your iPod Nano Into A Watch

iPod Watch

Earlier this week we wrote about the Slap strap from Griffin, a silicone bracelet that you can clip your iPod Nano into just like the 80s slap bracelets.

Now Scott Wilson, formerly the global creative director for Nike Watches is also introducing the TikTok and LunaTik, a wrist dock that will allow you to turn your Nano into a watch.

The TikTok is the cheaper of the two versions, with a plastic band and a snap-in frame inspired by the locking mechanisms found on ski boots. The LunaTik is the more premium case - forged from Aerospace Grade Aluminum and then machined via CNC into its final form. The straps are made from high grade silicone rubber and the hardware is solid stainless steel.

Wilson is using Kickstarter to find people to fund the project. By pledging $25 you are pre-ordering TikTok (which will retail for $34.95) or by pledging $50 you are pre-ordering the LunaTik (which will retail for $69.95). He needed $15K to reach his goal and is currently at $127,024 so we think it's safe to say we will see production of this project kicking off soon.

Top 5 "TRON Legacy" Merch

TRON: Legacy, the sequel to Disney's 80's sci-fi film about humans pulled into a dangerous digital world, may be out until Dec. 17, but those merchandise masterminds are already pulling out all the stops. The official movie merchandise line-up includes everything from Adidas clothing with glow-in-the-dark stitching to noise-cancellation headphones from Monster.

With less than a month to go we have pulled together a list of the top 5 Tron Legacy merch.

watch-cam-thumb.jpgChilli Technology don't believe in Santa, or so you'd be lead to believe after reading what they want you to do with their Watch Cam timepiece. They're urging owners to "go undercover and outwit Santa this year" by secretly filiming him come down the chimney with this spy-like gadget.

The aluminium watch can shoot 1.3 megapixel still shots, and store 2 hours of 640 x 480 (VGA) video, picking up sound with a built in mic.

It's James Bond tech without the hefty price tag; yours for just £44.99.

We cant count the cost of the broken dreams of anyone that tries to stake-out Father Christmas this winter though...

Pick one up here.

Story time

This is a great gadget for busy parents. The In Your Own Words Storyteller is comprised of a book and pen recorder, providing your little one with a customised bedtime reading experience even if there's no one around to read to them.

Parent can record segments of the book into the child-friendly pen programmed with specifically coded stickers, which are then attached to a particular page of the book. Each of the 600 stickers are encoded with with a unique pattern of dots (similar to a bar code) and each is associated with a voice recording stored on the pen's built-in memory. The child then simply points the pen at stickers placed throughout a book to hear recordings.

It probably wont replace story time, but great for any parents who might need a night off.
Available for $79.99

Shake

TuneBug's Shake was debuted at CES 2010 and eleven months later it is now finally available for purchase. The Shake is a portable "sound generator" that turns any bike or snowboard helmet into a mobile speaker system.

It is Bluetooth compatible eliminating both the hassle and danger of wearing earbuds with cords connected to an mp3 player. The water-resistant Shake pumps out your music into your helmet creating surround sound. We haven't tried out this device yet though, and are curious at how annoying it could be for other cyclists or boarders around you.

The Shake retails for $99 here

Yesterday we had a chance to sit down with Jawbone CEO Hosain Rahman, to talk about their latest product the Jambox.

While the Jambox is being labeled as the world's first intelligent wireless speaker, one thing is for sure this little device packs big sound. Get a first glimpse of the Jambox in action before its launched in the UK later this month below.
