Viewpad 7.JPGViewsonic have officially revealed the details of their forthcoming ViewPad 7 tablet device. Sorry, did we just call it a tablet? Well make that a tablet/phone hybrid!

Yep, the Android Froyo packing ViewPad 7 will also double up as a mobile, in much the same way that the Dell Streak did. At a full 7 inches however, it's a fair bit larger than the Streak, and probably one of the biggest mobile phones this side of the 1980s!

The ViewPad 7 promises to offer a VGA front-facing camera for video calling, a 3 megapixel stills camera, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS connectivity; a USB port and microSD slot, as well as 3G phone connectivity, ereader and office document smarts.

"We are proud to announce another world first at ViewSonic", said Derek Wright, European product marketing manager. 3G phone functionality combined with dual cameras gives the ability for use of Android apps to use augmented reality or video calling on the move with the benefit of an excellent 7-inch screen.

"The ViewPad 7 is aimed at users who require the 'always on' connectivity they are used to from a mobile phone with a more agreeable screen size for longer term use".

Expect the ViewPad 7 to hit shops around October, priced £350.

lg oled 31 inch thumb.JPGIt's been heralded as the future of flatscreen TVs, but OLED screens have so far been so small and expensive that they've remained something of a novelty. Until now that is. Details have leaked of an LG super OLED set that, whilst sure to still break the bank, is an impressive 31 inches as well as being 3D compatible.

At just 2.9mm thick it's quite literally a "cutting-edge" design, measuring up as the thinnest OLED screen on the market. Super smooth images will also be on show thanks to a 600Hz refresh rate, halving to a still-impressive 300Hz for 3D images.

However, with OLED screens half the size and without 3D smarts still sporting £1500 price tags, expect this set to remain the reserve of only the super-rich.

Samsung have released the first official footage of their highly-anticipated tablet, now confirmed as the Samsung Galaxy Tab. You can view it by clicking here if you have any problems with the embedded video above.

While the short teaser trailer doesn't go too far into the technical details of the slate, it does confirm some key features of the device.

According to the trailer, Android 2.2 is the operating system of choice on the 7 inch tablet. Video calling will be possible, as will the use of augmented reality applications. Swype typing also looks set to feature.

Samsung don't miss an opportunity to knock their rivals Apple and their iPad either. The trailer flashes a number of slogans up throughout, one of which reads "Full web browsing", an obvious dig at the iPad's lack of Flash support.

So, has the official teaser trailer won you over? Is it a real iPad killer or just another to add to the growing pile of tablet tag-alongs? With the Galaxy Tab getting the full showcase treatment at next month's IFA 2010 conference in Berlin, at least we wont have to wait long until we find out.

i mego thumb.jpgIt's not all tablets and TVs getting shown off at next month's IFA show in Berlin. It's also a great place to spot new audio tech, and first out of the blocks detailing their latest headphone ranges are accessory makers i-Mego.

First up are their Retro Infinity Xmas Limited Edition cans that look like 50's style radio mics. Billed as luxury items, the holiday tie-ins feature a real leather and velvet headband, as well as enhanced acoustic performance for "even more rousing and full-bodied bass, along with clear and detailed mid-range and treble". They will be available in black, silber or brown colours. Check them out in the images below.

Green-conscious audio fans can look forward to the arrival of i-Mego's Earth Series, also pictured below. Using eco-friendly materials and packaging, including recycled paper and rPET (recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate), i-Mego hope to raise awareness of environmental issues with the headphone's striking green pink, blue and khaki "globe" designs.

We'll have a full review of the headphones soon.

LG OLED.jpgLG have confirmed that they will be displaying a 31 inch OLED TV at this year's IFA conference. It will be the largest that the company have produced so far, and while bigger examples exist from the likes of Samsung and Sony, the LG display could be unique in that it may make it to shops before the year is out.

OLED TVs, with their superior contrast ratios, minimal motion blur and svelte sizes, were hailed as the future for TVs when they first popped up on show floors a couple of years back. But the increasing quality of LCD TVs (not to mention the high pricing of OLEDs) has kept them quite the niche product.

Toshiba Smartpad.jpgMore tablet news following this morning's announcements from Viewsonic and Archos. It looks as though the first shots of Toshiba's SmartPad tablet have broken cover ahead of next month's IFA conference in Berlin where it was set to be officially revealed to the public.

The first details of Toshiba's device suggested that the tablet would be a 10 inch Android affair boasting a Nvidia Tegra 2 chip. If the latest leaked images are the real deal, it looks like you'll be able to add a headphone jack, USB and mini USB ports, a HDMI port and memory card reader to the list of specs, as well as the usual array of Android hardware buttons. Scroll down for some more images.

Rumour has it Toshiba also have a Windows-based tablet in the works, though no word on whether or not that will make an appearance or not.

archos logo.jpgTablet devices, unsurprisingly, are going to be a big draw at this year's IFA conference in Berlin. We've already had a very interesting announcement from Viewsonic this morning concerning a dual-booting Android/Windows tablet, and now Archos are chiming in with 5 slates of their own.

With enough variations to please most price points, the tablets will all be Android based, ranging in size from 2.8 to 10 inches. According to Archos, they'll be capable of "computing, communications and apps with the power of Android plus ARCHOS' legendary video quality."

Slim on details, at least it confirms suspicions that tablet tech is going to be a major trend at this year's show.

viewpad 7.jpgViewsonic look set to have a very interesting IFA showcase ahead of them if their just-announced product line-up is anything to go by.

Two new tablet devices look set to draw plenty of attention. First up is the 7 inch ViewPad 7. Running the Android operating system, it'll feature 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections, as well as GPS, USB slots and a microSD slot.

It's the other as-yet-unnamed tablet that will turn most heads though. A 10 inch Intel based tablet, it will be capable of dual-booting Android and Windows. That's sure to get Steve Jobs a little hot under the collar.

Elsewhere Viewsonic will also be showing off the VPC220 all in-one PC, VX2450 LED monitor, a handheld 3D TV, VMP74 HD media streamer and the VEB625 touch screen eBook reader.
