Susi's love-affair with ultra-clever mice continues as Logitech bring us a mouse that works as well in the air as it does on the desktop.

Need a mouse when you're out and about? You might want to check out the Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks.

It uses a tiny USB receiver that's so small, it's almost flush with the notebook (or MacBook). Which means you can leave it in, rather than constantly unplugging every time you've finished with it. The mouse itself features the MicroGear Precision Scroll Wheel - so when the wheel is in hyper-fast scrolling mode, you can fly through long documents with the flick of a finger. To shift to the precise, click-to-click scrolling mode, you need only press and click the scroll wheel. There's also a One-Touch search button to instantly display results from a favourite search engine.

Powered by two AAA batteries, it's expected in late August for a suggested retail price of £49.99.

Let's be honest, the keyboard and mouse on your desk are grubby. And when they get too disgusting to touch, they get thrown away. But before that date, you're probably touching some pretty nasty germs every day. That could be avoided with IOgear’s wireless desktop set.

Both keyboard and mouse are covered in a protective Antimicrobial Nano Coating, which will stop enzymes and proteins of bacteria from surviving on the surface of the product - and it's been widely tested against some pretty nasty bacteria.

You might want to mention it to the owner of your local internet cafe. Available online, you can buy the set for $59.95 (around £30).

logitech mx air mouse

Logitech has unveiled its MX Air rechargeable cordless mouse, a versatile laser mouse that works both on the desk and in the air.

The device is like a cross between a remote control and a mouse, and is supposed to cater for those who want to command their media PC from the comfort of their sofa (or indeed, anywhere that there's an absence of solid, flat surface to use a traditional mouse on).

“The MX Air mouse offers a radically new way for people to control their PC entertainment,” said Erik Charlton, Logitech director of product marketing for performance and gaming mice. “It’s for anyone who has listened to music on their PC and been frustrated by having to return to the desk to change songs or volume. It’s for people who want to share vacation photos with friends and family without being tied to the desk. It’s for any of the millions of people using the Internet to browse and watch videos on sites such as YouTube or Grouper. And it’s for people with a living-room computer or media PC who want to navigate their media content on their terms.”

At first glance, the Vertical Mouse looks all wrong and I instinctively want to tip it back over again -- but I'm a Little Endian. It's supposed to be more ergonomic than the mouse we all currently use, with a shape to "support your hand in a fully upright handshake position which reduces pain and strain from the forearm twisting you get from a normal mouse". No, it doesn't slide sideways when you click. As usual, it's for Windows (although the site does have a link to a shareware Mac driver). Comes in silver and black and has models for both lefties and righties. $80. [GT]

Having a method of detecting dodgy bank notes is certainly worthwhile - but packing that into a computer mouse doesn't seem like the best idea.

That's the idea behind Embotec's EM-D275 money detector mouse, soon to be hitting the Korean market. Just a scroll of your mouse can identify counterfeit money and gift certificates via an adopted lens controlled by the scroll button. The detector then resets itself to use again in just 13 seconds.

Obviously all this is reliant on you having a computer near your till point. Which isn't the case for most garages and convenience stores, let alone supermarkets. But if you have, it's a great idea. No news on pricing or if it will ship outside Korea.

Sony has added two new mice to its PC accessories range, the SMU-C3, a two-colour optical USB desktop mouse and the SMU-M10 - a more compact design with built-in groove for easy transporting.

Both are Microsoft Windows Vista compatible, include an 800 dpi sensor and USB connectivity for plug and play operation. The SMU-C3 series comes in four different colours - pink, green, white and black - and at 3 cm deep is slightly smaller than the average desktop mouse. There's also an adjustable cord allows for tangle-free transportation and easy storage. The SMU-M10 is only 1.5 cm deep, comes with an anti-scratch UV paint coating and has that built-in groove to wrap the USB cable around the device so it doesn’t get tangled in transport. That one is available in three different colours - blue, black and white.

Both products are compatible with Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000 and later, and MAC OS X Version 10.2 and later. Expect them in the next few weeks, no price as yet.

The Wow Pen Eco is both an inexpensive (albeit less functional) alternative to an art tablet, and a potential solution for carpal tunnel sufferers. Shaped like a pen rather than a traditional lozenge, it changes your grip in a way that means less strain on your wrist. Though the reviewer noted it is nowhere near as nice as a tablet in applications like Photoshop, it's also much more portable than typical mice, and wireless. However, at only 400 DPI, the reviewer -- after being increasingly annoyed by how inaccurate the tracking was -- was also keenly looking forward to the upcoming 800 dpi version. Looking for bragging rights as the most green person in the office? Pick up this I used to be a car tyre... mouse mat and everyone will know your eco-credentials.

As the name suggests, this was an old car tyre, but rather than dumping it, it's been recycled into something useful. If only that could happen to all our cast-offs. And just in case anyone is in any doubt, the details of this recycling are boldly stated on the top.

Available online, you can pick it up for a measly £4.99.

The humble computer mouse might not be the obvious place to look for quirky design, but that's what you get with this Ring Mouse from Global Link.

Yes, as the name suggests, this is a peripheral you wear like a ring, with a strap on the top to keep it secure and some kind of wizardry underneath (ball or laser, we can't tell) to capture your movement and translate to your notebook or desktop.

It's just been unveiled at Computex, so don't go rushing down to the shops for one. In fact, we have no information about price or availability, but I'd expect to see it on one of the quirky gadget retail site before the end of the year.

A silly one to start the day off with, I can imagine these mouse-pads which have real silicone implants attached to the jubblie or bum bits would go down a treat as a gag-gift for a workmate. Probably in Zoo, Nuts, or Loaded magazine's offices, natch. Certainly not in our Shiny Towers, where most of us are women and most of my colleagues (especially the Dollymix-ers) would feel rather insulted with a fellow workmate resting his RSI-ridden wrists between two of those soft mounds.

Unfortunately there's no US or UK availability on these babies, but if you're in Japan, you're in luck. And, err, forever in hiding from your female colleagues.
