Though I’m more impressed with Belkin’s Podcast Studio for recording audio directly to an iPod, Olympus’s LS-10 linear PCMr recorder boasts high quality portable sound recording directly onto its 2GB internal memory or SD/SDHC expansion cards.

It will record audio through its two in-built microphones at up to 24-bit/96kHz, in WAV. WMA or MP3 format. It has three microphone recording modes — normal, wide, and zoom — five reverb effects and four playback modes…

Digital Summer Special: Olympus compact and DSLR cameras

Olympus was out in force at Digital Summer, showing off a line of their recent digital compact and SLR cameras. We’ve covered some of them already on Tech Digest, and most have been out for at least a couple of months, but it’s still worth taking a closer look.

This DSLR offers up a 20x wide optical zoom, 10 megapixel sensor, dual image stabilisation, sequential shooting at up to 13.5 fps, super macro mode, face detection, shadow adjustment, BrightCapture technology for low-light shooting, 23 preset scene modes, automated and manual settings. Unusually for a DSLR it runs on four AA batteries.

Digital Summer Special: High-tech audio systems

Several of the companies exhibiting at Digital Summer had some interesting audio technology on show.

There’s been plenty of talk about creating virtual surround sound from a pair of stereo speakers, but not so much (that I’ve heard of) about creating a wide stereo sound space from one speaker unit. Audio Pro, Geneva, and Orbitsound are all pushing technology that does just that. It sounds great, too.
