Sony's Bloggie range may be facing stiff competition from the ever-improving video recording abilities of smartphone's, but this year's product line refresh does include at least one significant feature.

Sony's Bloggie Live, as well as shooting 16MP stills and Full HD video, can also be used to livestream in real-time, anywhere where you have access to a Wi-Fi connection.

It uses Qik video to throw a commenting system onto the camcorders 3-inch touchscreen too, meaning you can interact with your viewers as you're shooting.

JVC has blown open the camcorder market at CES 2012 by introducing the world's first 4K camcorder, the GY-HMQ10.

Expected to cost around £3,300, it houses an 8.3-megapixel sensor that shoots video at a 3840×2160 resolution. Though marginally less than Hollywood's 4K camera's, that's still considerably higher than what you'd see projected down your local digital multiplex. It's a resolution being identified as QFHD, AKA Quad Full High Definition, or 4 times 1080p.

Incredibly fast recording rates are also nessecary to pull off 4K video capture, and the GY-HMQ10 manages that too. It records at a rate of up to, 144Mpbs, drastically faster than your average 1080p camera's 25MBps rate.

Recording onto SD and SDXC cards using a variable bitrate (VBR) h.264 codec, the camcorder also features a non-removable f/2.8 lens with 10x optical zoom, optical images stabiliser, 3.5-inch touchscreen and XLR sockets for pro audio inputs.

If 4K resolutions are higher than you need, you'll still get top-notch 1080p flicks from the camera as well, thanks to the drastically better optical gear tucked in here compared to standard HD camcorders.

4K domestic screens are a little way off yet, but this year's CES has proved perhaps their strongest springboard yet. It may take a few years, but this sort of camcorder will be exactly what you'll need to make your holiday videos shine on the next wave of UDTVs on their way.

Those looking to step up from their pocket HD camcorders or smartphone video recording apps would do well to check out Canon's latest M-Series camcorders, just unveiled at this week's CES 2012 conference.

Top of the line is the Canon Legria HF M52. It features an HD CMOS Pro Sensor, capable of 20% better performance in low-light conditions, built in Wi-Fi for DLNA streaming, Facebook and YouTube uploads and streaming to a dedicated Apple iOS app, a 10x optical zoom, AVCHD compatibility and a 7.5 inch adjustable, swivelling touchscreen.

There are three models to fit differing bank balances. The premium edition is the Canon Legria HF M52 which comes with 32GB of built-in storage, the cheaper M52 with just 8GB of storage, and the entry-level model called the M506 that drops the Wi-Fi functions and only stores to SD cards.

No pricing details announced yet, but these should be in shops by the Spring.

We may all be singing the praises of smartphone video capture, but Sony are still plugging away with their Bloggie pocket HD camcorder range. And with good reason; the two new models (Bloggie Live and Bloggie Sport) both look to add interesting new functionality to the original Bloggie idea.

First up, the Bloggie Live, which will offer HD video capture, 12.8 MP still shooting and, most interstingly, the ability to live stream whatever you're recording over Wi-Fi.

A built in Wi-Fi chip works alongside Qik video to push the video into cyberspace, storing one HD copy of the recording locally on the camera, and another on the Qik website. The livestream supports a commenting system too, meaning viewers live comments can be viewed on the camera's 3 inch touchscreen. The camera can also publish directly to the likes of YouTube and Facebook.

Alongside the Bloggie Live model, Sony also launched a Bloggie Sport pocket camcorder, with a more ruggedised build. Similarly spec'ed as the Live, it has a touchscreen that will work when drenched underwater, can withstand an hour's dunking in 16 feet of water, and drops of 5 feet. It will come in shades of blue, black and red.

Both due in February, the 8GB Bloggie Live will be priced at $250 (no UK pricing available yet). The Sport will land a little more cheaply at $180, with a UK retail price of £180 too.

Canon have today revealed the new EOS C300 interchangeable lens digital camera, with its sights set squarely on a place in the hands of Hollywood directors currently using Red Scarlet kit.

Very much a high-end, pro shooter (the $20,000 price tag sets it out of most amatuer filmmakers), it'll be a relatively compact way to capture blockbuster scenes.

Two models will be available, the C300 and the C300 PL with Arri Positive Lock PL mount. Both come equipped with a new Super 35mm-equivalent sensor, boasting rich, natural colours.

Specs ride high throughout - 4K imaging is possible thanks to an 8.3-megapixel CMOS sensor offering 2160 x 3840 reolutions, powered by a DIGIC DV III processor.

Plenty of lens options will be available too 14.5-60mm and 30-300mm lens (EF and PL mounts), and 24mm, 50mm and 85mm prime lenses for the EF mount only.

Saving on to two flash cards, by using the Canon XF codec the photography giants are also claiming recording write speeds of 50mbps.

Keep an eye out for these on Hollywood film sets from January.

GoPro have released the follow up to a their popular HD Hero camera, the HD Hero2.

A small, action-orientated camera whose predecessor is a regular now on Hollywood sets, the HD Hero 2 offers 11MP still images and an image processor twice as fast as the original, with a stripped-back, simplified user interface. A tiny unit, the HD Hero2 is designed to clip onto helmets and handlebars, making it perfect for extreme sports enthusiasts.

With professional low-ligh performance, the HD Hero2 also offers full 170º, medium 127º, narrow 90º FOV in 1080p and 720p video, as well as120 fps WVGA, 60 fps 720p, 48 fps 960p, 30 fps 1080p video and full 170º and medium 127º FOV photos.

Burst shooting modes also allow for 10 11MP snaps to be captured every second, while and 1 11MP photo every 0.5 seconds in time-lapse mode.

"The HD Hero2 is much, much easier to use than the original HD Hero," says GoPro's director of product definition, Rudy Samuels.

"If you know how to use a traditional camera, you can use the HD Hero2 straight out of the box without instructions. This makes the HD Hero2 very powerful as an everyday, easy to use consumer camera while retaining all of the features, modes and performance that has made GoPro the best selling small form factor HD camera to Hollywood."

Out now, the GoPro HD Hero2 costs £299.99, with the original dropping to £199.99.

Sony have announced the launch of the world's first pairs of digital binoculars to feature HD video recording. Two models will be available, the DEV-5 and the less expensive DEV-3.

Tech heavy binoculars for bird watchers and peeping Toms alike, the binoculars can record full 1080p video with stereo sound, and even features a 3D recording mode.

G Lens optics with Exmor R CMOS is the sensor of choice, with a 10x Optical Zoom on both models and 10x digital zoom on the DEV-5. 7MP still photos can be captured too.

HDMI-out to a big screen TV is supported, as well as an optional 5-inch LCD screen add-on. 3 hours of 2D recording will be possible from a single battery charge.

Available from November, the DEV-5 will set you back £2,300.

The cheaper DEV-3 ditches features like GPS, geo-tagging and the 10x digital zoom for a more affordable price of £1,700.

The popular Flip pocket camcorders are to get an updated software suite and range of related iOS and Android apps, manufacturers Cisco have announced.

The software, making it easier to share videos with pals, will ship with all new Flip camcorders. It will allow you to create a group of pals with which to share your footage, giving them access to any videos you upload via the software itself, the new mobile phone apps, or online at www.flipshare.com.

You'll also be able to comment on videos from the new apps and software, invite friends from a mobile phone's address book, and upload cameraphone pics and videos to the FlipShare groups too.

"Capturing precious moments is just the first step because as soon as you have the footage you want to share it with friends and family," said Peter Groom, UK & Ireland Region Manager for Flip Video at Cisco.

"We have always looked to provide the best user-experience to easily shoot, connect and share high quality video and the upgraded FlipShare software now makes it even easier for Flip owners. FlipShare Mobile apps extend the FlipShare experience to mobile devices and allow users to share videos and pictures with friends, family and colleagues whilst on the move."

A few months ago Panasonic's launched a new range of pocket HD camcorders in the shape of the HM-TA1, their competitor to the Flip.

Capable of shooting 1080p video, the 53 x 17.8 x 104mm HM-TA1 features a 2-inch LCD screen, a wide angle lens, digital zoom and an LED light, not often seen in pocket camcorders.

Recording straight to SD cards, the HM-TA1 can also be hooked up to Skype and used as a makeshift webcam, as well as featuring one touch controls for uploading videos to YouTube.

You'll also be able to personalize the camcorder a little, as it features a removable silicone case that can be replaced with a handful of designs.

Sony's budget 3D camera

Gerald gets to play with Sony's revolutionary high-end 3D camcorder. Lucky boy.

You know what's moe radical than grabbing mad air on a snowboard or mountain bike? Filming a first-person view of the action in HD with a head-mounted camera.

That's all possible now thanks to Liquid Imaging, who've just revealed the latest additions to their Impact range at CES 2011.

The 367 cam was the main draw, offering full HD recording at 30 fps and 720p capture at 60 fps. 12MP still shots can also be snapped, with storage of up to 32GB possible via microSD cards.

Built to take a beating, waterproof variants are also available for those who prefer their action both wet AND wild.

We first saw a mock-up of the Ion dual-lens video shooter back at CES in January. Now nearly a year round we have the real-deal, with the Twin video camcorder ready to be picked up for £129 from IWOOT.

With both a rear and front facing lens, the camera is designed to film both action and the camera user's reaction, switching between the two video feeds at the push of a button. It's being billed as perfect for "blogging, interviewing, and creating videos with an easy-to-use, live-editing feature."

There are a few catches though - while it can be used to record just the single feed like a conventional camcorder, it cant shoot HD video, instead only at a resolution of 640x480. There's also no built in memory, so you'll have to provide your own SD/SDHC cards for storage.

Still, there's going to be a niché market for it for sure, particularly for interviewers and especially adrenalin junkies, as shown in the clip below.

The latest range of Bloggies also pack in a 3 inch touchscreen with a revamped UI to make sharing and previewing clips as simple as possible.

With 8GB of internal memory, the Bloggie Touch also has the now near-standard flip out USB port for quickly transferring vids to your PC or Mac.

Looking for a pocket HD camcorder with a ...ahem... twist? Then take a butchers at Medion's latest bit of kit, the Medion Life Twist.

Shooting 1080p video at 30 fps or 720p at 60fps, the camcorder has a twisting screen, letting you turn it into widescreen mode to make the most of the 3.5 inch LCD display when previewing clips.

With a 4x digital zoom, the camera also lets you snap 5MP still photos with its CMOS sensor, which can then be outputted along with the videos to a HD TV screen over a HDMI connection.

Slim at only 19mm, the rechargeable camera has a measly 128MB of internal memory, though there is a built in slot for SD and SDHC card expansion.

The Twist also ships with a HDMI cable and charging cradle.

You'll be able to pick up the Medion Life Twist from the end of November, priced £99.

Throwing another HD mini camcorder onto the ever growing pile today are GE, who are preparing to launch their DV1.

Shooting Full HD 1080p video, it records to SD or SDHC memory card, compatible with sizes up to 32GB.

The DV1 also takes 5 megapixel still photos with its CMOS sensor, while a 2.5 inch LCD screen gives you a quick preview of what you've captured. HDMI connectivity is also included, while data transfer is possible over a Flip-style fold out USB connection.

It's a fairly robust little bit of pocket-sized kit too, being waterproof, shockproof and dustproof. Not a bad gift idea for someone off on a round-the-world adventure holiday perhaps?

Available in grey, orange or green, you'll be able to pick the GE DV1 up from October. No word on pricing yet though.

JVC are launching a new range of pocket camcorders in their Picsio stable, now with added touchscreen controls.

The two new models are the JVC GC-WP10 and GC-FM2. Both cameras share similar specs, except for the WP10's waterproofing, good for depths of up to 10 feet.

Each capable of shooting 1080p Full HD video, they come with basic built-in LoiLoScope EX video-editing software, as well as the ability to shoot time-lapse video.

Like the Flip range, both camcorders also feature a twist-out USB adaptor for hooking up to a computer, as well as a HDMI port for connecting straight to a TV.

The JVC GC-WP10 and GC-FM2 cameras are due out in September. No pricing has been announced yet.

Kodak have today revealed they will be adding the Playtouch to their line of pocket camcorders. Featuring full 1080p HD recording modes and a 3 inch capacitive touchscreen, users will be able to do some simple video editing straight from the device itself.

The Playtouch also features a "Share" button for quickly uploading videos to YouTube and Facebook when the camera is connected to a PC via USB. Alternatively, you can hook the Playtouch up to a TV with the included HDMI cable to play back your videos.

The camcorder can store as much as 32GB of recordings at once through its expandable SD/SDHC card slot, while photos can also be taken with the 5MP still sensor, which features face-tracking technology.
