Yes. Yes, it has. It really has. IKEA has just assembled itself a piece of the UK mobile phone market, thanks to a newly-announced tie-up with T-Mobile.

IKEA Family Mobile, as the service will be known, will be available to members of the IKEA Family loyalty scheme. Once you’ve bought £10 of IKEA pre-paid airtime you get fixed-price calls and texts – 9p per minute for calls and 6p per text…

Grand Theft Auto IV blamed for Thai killing – game pulled from shelves

GTA-IV-banned-thailand.jpg

This isn’t your usual tabloid shock story, where there was a robbery and one of the items taken just so happened to be a PlayStation. This is FOR REAL.

A Thai teenager has confessed to robbing and killing a taxi driver – then allegedly told police he was trying to recreate a scene from Grand Theft Auto. There’s no denying the facts or fudging the issue here – he was copying the game. It’s a 100% confirmed copycat crime. There’s going to be trouble over this. Big trouble.

“He said he wanted to find out if it was as easy in real life to rob a taxi as it was in the game,” chief police investigator…

Man "portablizes" Super Nintendo

It’s a beautiful piece. The cheap case gives it a pleasingly utilitarian early-1990s design appearance, with simplistic buttons that you could easily believe Nintendo would’ve chucked into a handheld SNES – had it bothered to make one back in the day. Box-shifter par excellence Dell is planning to enter the MP3 player market, according to a bit of sniffing around from the Wall Street Journal.

The WSJ reckons that Dell wants a bit of the lucrative music retailing pie as well, so is planning to launch what industry experts will be calling an “iTunes killer” alongside its alleged range of players…

The "Heart Robot" that just wants to be needed

heart-robot-needs-some-loving.jpg

It looks like a Teletubby that’s had all its skin burned off in an industrial accident, but don’t let that put you off – the Heart Robot is very friendly on the inside.

Designed by The University of the West of England’s David McGoran, the robot likes a good cuddle. Its heart starts pounding when it’s particularly excited, plus its eyes flutter when you touch it – and its puny limbs tense themselves for a smack round the head or a shove down the stairs when it hears raised voices…

U SND 200 MLN TXTS 2DAY, INNIT

uk-sends-200-million-texts-a-day.jpg

Incredibly, the number of text messages us lot in the UK send is continuing to rise, according to the Mobile Data Association.

The MDA reckons we’re burning through our free text allowance at a rate of 200 million text messages a day, which, by my maths, is nearly four texts per person every day – a rise of 30% over the number we sent last year…
