BlinkXT2 2
Launched appropriately enough at the Ice Bar in London was Blink’s latest extreme weather wireless security camera, the Blink XT.

Joining the existing Blink line-up, the XT runs on two standard AA lithium batteries and is compact enough to install just about anywhere.

However, the key difference between this unit and the existing model is that it is IP-65 rated to ensure water resistance. It can also be used in extreme weather conditions from –25 to +45 degrees centigrade.

Compatible with Blink’s indoor models, the XT can be integrated with your existing systems or used independently with the Blink Sync module – the base station hub.

Unlike some systems that require a monthly subscription, one of the key advantages of the Blink
is that it is subscription free. If movement is detected from one of the cameras then a push notification is sent through free of charge to your smartphone via the Blink Home Monitor app (iOS and Android).

The system can be armed/disarmed remotely, and live video can be watched anytime from anywhere. The Blink XT includes configurable 5-60 second clip length, IFTTT and Amazon Alexa integration for voice control.

It also offers infrared night vision and up to 1080p HD video quality.

Cmments Peter Besen, Blink CEO: “We are thrilled to announce our affordable outdoor camera so Blink customers and new users alike can protect their entire home, inside and out.”

He continues: “The Blink XT demonstrates our commitment to developing integrated products that serve the home protection needs of consumers by fitting perfectly into their lifestyles.”

Coming next from Blink is a siren feature which will enable users to sound an alarm remotely if a burglar is in their property (this is already available in the US). It is also looking at options for storing video clips on a local server rather than the cloud as they are at present as well as a two-way audio feature.

Look out for the review on Tech Digest coming soon.
