Sony’s X Series range promises a battery life of 2 days and improved design and camera functionality

Sony has announced a new range of smartphones known as the Xperia X series at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Promising improvements in design, camera and battery life, the new handsets are the first in the company’s ‘X’ line-up.

Features include curved-glass displays and a new Predictive Hybrid Autofocus which lets you choose your photographic subject and then predicts its motion, so you can – claims Sony – capture the action in focus, free from blur.

The Xperia X series also incorporates Sony’s smart battery management to deliver up to two days battery life. Not only will it keep your phone running for longer from one charge, the Xperia X series also benefits from a battery lifespan that’s up to twice as long with Qnovo’s Adaptive Charging technology and Sony’s smart battery management system.

Each phone is powered to make the most of their advanced capabilities, with Xperia X boasting the Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor for fast connectivity.

Says Hiroki Totoki, President and CEO at Sony Mobile Communications: “With our continued passion for technology, we will keep adding new and exciting features to evolve our smartphones.

“At the same time, we want to change how you access information and interact with friends and family in a closer, natural and more meaningful way.”

The Xperia X and Xperia XA are available in white, graphite black, lime gold and rose gold, and each have a range of matching covers. Sony has confirmed that the devices will starting shipping in ‘Summer 2016’, although exact pricing and availability has yet to be announced.

Vodafone has already confirmed that it will be stocking the new Sony handsets but hasn’t yet given any further details.

Other planned X Series products include the Xperia Ear (pictured below), a next-generation wireless ear-piece that provides you with useful information such as your schedule, weather and the latest news to keep you up-to-date on the go (due out Summer 2016) and the Xperia Eye which is currently a conceptual vision for an ultra compact, wearable wide-angle lens camera.
