The Honor 5X. Costing £189, it’s one of the cheapest smartphones on the market

Chinese brand Honor has launched its 5X smartphone in Europe in Munich, Germany. Featuring fingerprint technology and boasting a metal finish it’s available in three colours – gold, silver and grey – for £189.99.

Billed as one of the cheapest smartphones on the market, it’s available from Honor’s own online store vMall as well as Amazon, Clove and Ebuyer as well as Three UK stores from 12th February.

The Honor 5X claims to use a lightning-fast, frame-free fingerprint sensor which can unlock the phone in only 0.5 seconds even with slightly dirty hands as the fingerprint-sensor gets even more accurate over time.

You can use intuitive gestures to make a call or launch an app during locked mode or take photos, control the notification bar and cancel an alarm with your fingers. You can also link different actions of the Honor 5X with distinct fingers on your hands.

Three card slots are provided – one nano-SIM, one micro-SIM and one microSD slot – for full flexibility and keeping roaming costs down by using a local SIM.

“The Honor 5X is a no-nonsense smartphone that delivers all the essentials digital natives want and need in a device,” said George Zhao, president of Honor. “We designed the Honor 5X to be an extension of the personalities of its users – cool, stylish and iconic – and integrated innovative technology to give a superior connected experience, all at an affordable price.”

“Since its founding two years ago, the Honor brand has seen extraordinary growth by focusing on the online market and bringing digital natives devices that suit their digital lifestyles,” said Zhao. “That success led to expansion beyond China and we are thrilled that the Honor 5X will be available in Europe, the Americas and Asia/Pacific.”

Also due to launch in March is the premium version of the Honor 7 with more in-built memory. Other specifications remain unchanged with fast octa-core processor, fingerprint-sensor to protect your data, 20 MP camera and fast charger.

Finally Honor presents the Honor hybrid earphones AM175. Provided are inline controls to play music, to change volume or to answer incoming phone calls.

The headphones are compatible with a range of Android phones and designed to complement Honor smartphones, including the Honor 5X. The AM175 will be released starting from March 2016 in a range of different colours, including black and white.
