Smart thermostat company Tado has today announced two new features that will help it talk to other gadgets and play a wider role in the “internet of things”.

First off, the company has finally partnered with IFTTT – the website that lets you connect together different services and gadgets to create custom “recipes”. Apparently Tado will be sharing its location sensing tech, meaning that you’ll be able to, say, setup an IFTTT recipe that will also switch off your lights when you leave your house – as well as turn down your thermostat.

The company will also be launching an API for developers to build support for the thermostat directly into their apps – meaning that Tado controls could conceivably come to new wearable devices and so on.

We’ve no word yet on exactly when both features will be launching – but we’ll let you know.
