Now you can watch Netflix on Oculus Rift

A company called AltSpaceVR has announced an open beta of a new app that will let Oculus Rift VR headset users watch Netflix together in a virtual cinema.

According to UploadVR the new app is unofficial – it isn’t made or endorsed by Netflix – but nor does it infringe on the terms of service in terms of ‘rebroadcasting’ Netflix video content. The way it works is that each Oculus user will have to be signed into their own Netflix account, and then the VR app will keep everyone’s stream in sync, so it is like watching together.

As it is still early days, apparently the sync only works perfectly if there is no problems. If there is buffering or someone’s connection lags, they will be knocked out of sync. But for most cases, it should be fine.

Unfortunately there doesn’t appear to be any screenshots or similar at this point – but we suspect it will look a bit like the video below, in which an annoying teenager demonstrates the movie theatre capabilities of the Oculus Rift.
