EE has today announced its replacement for the long running “Orange Wednesdays” cinema tickets offer that ended last month. In a sign of the times, the company has switched from offering cinema tickets to film streaming at home.

The company has partnered with on-demand service Wuaki.tv and will be offering customers a £1 film rental every week – to be redeemed on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. To get your code once the service launches on March 30th, all you have to do is text “film” to 141 as before.

Apparently the offer will work across most (all?) of Wuaki’s catalogue – including films in HD. You’ll have 48 hours to watch your film from when you redeem your code. Texts will cost 35p so really you’ll be paying £1.35 – but that still works out cheaper than a £3.49 film rental.

The Wuaki is currently available on a wide range of devices, including Chromecast, PS4, Xbox 360, Android, iOS and EE’s own EETV service.
