Poor Rovio. Just a few years ago the mobile developer was king of the world. Angry Birds took the world by storm, and all anyone could think about was throwing cartoon birds at cartoon pigs. Now though, not so much.
This time last year we asked if Angry Birds was “like, totally over?”, and it appears that the answer is a resounding yes. According to Business Insider profits at the company have fallen another 73% – down to $10.7m in 2014, from $39.1m in 2013 and $82.3m in 2012.
The fall isn’t just due to app sales. The company did have a lucrative sideline in merchandise, plastering the characters on to pretty much everything. Heck – there’s even a movie currently in production, so executives must be nervous about anyone now actually wanting to go and see it.
The Angry Birds phenomenon is well and truly over.
