Now Christmas is over, expect the major manufacturers to start talking more about future plans – which is perhaps why this week we’re seeing rumours about future HTC and Samsung phones.

BGR reports the rumoured spec for the HTC One (M9) – the follow up to the M8, and a phone that is rumoured to be officially announced at CES in a week or so. According to an alleged leak benchmark, the phone will feature a 5″ display that runs at full HD (1920×1080), a 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor, a 20.7 megapixel rear camera and a 13 megapixel front camera. It will also apparently have 3GB of RAM and run Android 5.0.1 (Lollipop, in other words). An impressive incremental upgrade.

Meanwhile UberGizmo is reporting that Samsung could be launching the Galaxy A7 as early as the 14th January – the phone having been rumoured for some time. This phone will feature a 5.5″ 1080p display, an Octa-core processor with 2GB of RAM, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, Android KitKat, and crucially come with a full metal body like the other phones in the Samsung A-series (which was created in response to criticisms of Samsung’s over-reliance on plastic).

Whilst we can expect the A7 soon, with the inevitable Galaxy S6 not too far away (spring time, perhaps), could the A7 with its fairly impressive spec be the new face of the mid-range phone?

We’ll let you know when we receive confirmation about either of these devices.
