Supermarket Sainsbury’s has updated its app, enabling shoppers to pay for stuff through the app – with no need to queue.

It sounds pretty clever: Essentially you scan app of the products you pick up as you go around the store – putting what you want directly into your bag – and then using the app pay… and you can simply walk out of the store, with no hassle.

The app hasn’t launched publicly yet – it is currently being tested with staff, but Sainsburys say that it will be rolled out to Nectar Card customers next year. It’s going to be fun for store detectives.

It isn’t the first time technology like this has been used – Apple stores have a similar app available – but it is the first time it has been used on this scale, by a major supermarket. It’ll be interesting to see if it takes off.
