Microsoft’s Chinese division seems to have accidentally let the Windows 9 cat out of the bag.

On the Chinese social network Weibo, Microsoft China launched a post asking the question: “Microsoft’s latest OS Windows 9 is coming soon, do you think the start menu at the left bottom will make a comeback?”

The post – which was even accompanied by a Windows 9 logo, which you can see above – was removed shortly afterwards.

Microsoft is rumoured to be holding a launch event for its new Windows OS on September 30.

This will be followed by a Technology Preview of the OS, currently known as Windows Threshold, that will be available for developers in October.

Windows 9 is expected to be reeleased to the public in early 2015. Microsoft is reportedly planning to bring in a new Start menu, change how the Windows 8 Charms bar works in desktop mode, incorporate its Cortana voice-activated personal assistant, and more.
