Over the weekend a new video from a fan project to remake the N64 classic Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask was posted on YouTube by creator Pablo Belmonte. Whilst obviously unofficial and unendorsed, it does give us a tantalising glance at what could be.

Traditionally Nintendo’s approach has been to call in the lawyers and shut down any project like this that gets too close to infringing on its properties. Perhaps because of this, Belmonte has heavily caveated the video, explaining that his intention isn’t to release a remake, saying:

“None of the materials of the original game have been employed either for the development or the finishing of this project. This interactive project is intended to be neither a commercial product or a remake of the game. None of the material published about this project brings any benefit to its creators. This work has been created by fans for fans, but its ultimate purpose is to be presented to Nintendo Co. (They will be the owners of the commercial-economic decisions.)”

Hey Nintendo, if you’re reading – you should hire this guy, then got on with making the remake happen!
