Microsoft planning its own Chromecast-style streaming dongle?

Microsoft is thought to be working on its own Chromecast-style streaming dongle for TVs – at least if a filing with America’s Federal Communications Commission is to believed.

The filing suggests the company is working on something that can plug into a HDMI port, is powered by USB and can stream content over wifi – which would make sense for the company given the runaway success of Chromecast (not to mention the likes of Apple TV and Roku).

Nokia Power User speculates that the dongle will also support the Miracast streaming standard – allowing Windows users to share their screens with the TV much like Android users will soon be able to do with Chromecast. This would explain why a number of Nokia Lumia handsets recently received an update to add Miracast support.

We’ll let you know if we hear anything official.
