BioShock was one of the biggest games of the last console generation – and today 2K Games has announced that it will be bringing the title to iOS too.

The 2007 game was widely praised at the time for its graphics – and astonishingly, the 2K China team behind the port has managed to fit most of it into Apple’s 2GB size limit. According to Polygon the only real difference is a handful of graphical adjustments and control tweaks. Make no mistake – this is proper BioShock, not an ersatz mobile equivalent. Apparently when playing with a bluetooth controller, the experience is nearly identical to playing on a console – though as ever using on screen controls can apparently be a little fiddly.

Impressively the original game has a score of 96 on review aggregator Metacritic.

The game is due for release “soon” and will work with only the newer iOS devices: iPhone 5 and above, iPad Air and iPad Mini 2.
