Acer has today unveiled the Chromebook 13, which is the first device in its class to be powered by Nvidia’s Tegra K1 chip.

The Chromebook 13, which is also said to have 13 hour battery life on top of its 13″ screen is thought to be one of the most powerful Chromebooks available yet. Something tells us that the superstitious won’t be picking it up though.

The makers claim that the Tegra K1 is what gives the device its long battery life – and apparently it is a fanless design, meaning that it is more portable than rivals – it is only 18mm thick. The Tegra K1 should also be able to handle more 3D than previous Chromebooks – meaning that users will be able to take advantage of “WebGL” technologies – and presumably Android apps, once the forthcoming Chrome OS update lets you install them onto Chromebooks.

The new device will come in three different configurations:

  • The Acer Chromebook 13 CB5-311-T9B0 has the 1920×1080 full HD display, 2GB of memory and a fast 16GB Solid State Drive. It is priced at only $299.99.
  • The Acer Chromebook 13 CB5-311-T1UU has a 1920×1080 full HD display, 4GB of memory and a fast 32GB Solid State Drive. It is priced at only $379.99
  • The Acer Chromebook 13 CB5-311-T7NN has a 1366×768 display, 2GB of memory and a fast 16GB Solid State Drive. It is priced at only $279.99.

We’ll let you know when we get a UK release date.
