Dutch electronics maker LG has unveiled its new flagship smartphone, the G3 – the successor to the popular LG G2 handset.

LG says that the G3 “aims to redefine” the smartphone, so what sets this new model apart from the pack – and especially the Galaxy S5, which Samsung has claimed is the most powerful smartphone around?

1) The highest-resolution HD screen yet
The LG G3 has a 5.5in screen, with 538ppi and resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. LG says this is four times the resolution of HD and almost two times higher resolution than a Full HD display. This makes it a much sharper screen than phones like the Galaxy S5. (Most smartphones have screens with a Full HD 1920×1200 resolution or lower.)

2) The LG3 has laser-focusing camera
LG says the 13MP camera “can shoot stunningly sharp images in a fraction of the time required by conventional phone cameras”.

3) The G3 is bigger
The LG G3 is the largest flagship Android smartphone released in 2014, measuring 74.6mm wide and 146.3mm. Which possibly makes it more of a phablet than a phone?

4) The G3 is fast
LG says the smartphone will launch with a Snapdragon 801 chip clocked at 2.5GHz and 2 GB of RAM. Which is rather fast indeed.

5) The G3 is user-friendly
LG says that its redesigned and uncluttered GUI makes it the simplest Android phone to use. It has certainly taken its design cues from the current trend for making everything flatter. It has also added new security features, such as a Kill Switch that gives owners the ability to disable the phone remotely in the event of theft.

So the phone is certainly showing some nice improvements over what came before – are you tempted to pick one up? Let us know in the comments.
