Crash Bandicoot 3
Perhaps the high-point of the PS1’s answer to Mario. Crash Bandicoot was an instant success, mixing 3D graphics with linear gameplay. What’s astonishing is that it still looks pretty good even today - the textures are certainly low-res, but because it goes for cartoon fun rather than gritty realism, it’s still incredibly playable (compare to the grey mess that is the original Metal Gear Solid). The Crash series spawned a huge number of sequels, but pretty much everything after Crash 3 was terrible. So why not recreate the best game of the series - in which Crash teams up with his sister Coco to take on Dr Neo Cortex across a huge variety of levels. There’s medieval costumes, riding a tiger on the Great Wall of China, a driving game, swimming under the sea and even magic carpets - yet it all sticks together beautifully.
The next generation of videogaming is almost upon us – with around a month to go until the PS4 and Xbox One hit British shores. But before we get too caught up in Call of Duty Ghosts, Watch Dogs and Battlefield 4, let’s take a trip down memory lane – and think about what games are deserving of a HD remake.
Lots of old games have received the HD treatment and have been released as downloads… but what titles haven’t made the jump yet? Here’s some old titles we think would look great with a lick of 1080p paint.
