PS Vita TV box will bring handheld games and streaming services to your flatscreen
As well as an all-new PS Vita handheld redesign, Sony have revealed a brand new piece of Vita-specific hardware, designed to sit under your TV rather than in your back pocket. The PS Vita TV box will let you play PS Vita games on your TV, as well as opening up TV streaming services to your flatscreen too.
A small white box measuring 6cm x 10cm, it’s the smallest addition to the PlayStation hardware family ever (PlayStation memory cards notwithstanding).
PS Vita TV will let you control PS Vita games on your telly with a DualShock 3 controller – likely prefferably for many who feel the PS Vita handheld’s controls are a little cramped. No word on how the touchscreen features of games will work though.
The PS Vita TV also has a memory card slot for downloading PS Vita games, and will have access to all the same video streaming services that the Vita currently offers. PSone Classics and PSP games will also be supported by the new box.
Perhaps most interestingly however is the PS Vita TV’s abilities to act as a link to the forthcoming PlayStation 4 console. Using Remote Play functionality and DualShock 4 console, you’ll be able to use the PS Vita TV to wirelessly stream PS4 games to another room – perfect for when your other half wants to watch the living room TV and your game or Killzone is relegated to the bedroom set. There’d be no need to move the whole console around if you had the PS Vita TV set up in the other room. Using the same system, the PS4 could play Vita games beamed from the PS Vita TV.
Hitting Japanese stores on November 14th for 9,480 YEN (around £60) with an 8GB Vita memory card and DualShock 3 controller, there’s no western release date available yet, though it looks likely to hit our stores too ahead of the PS4 release.

I’m confused by this product… There isn’t enough games to need this, and the games they do have only a select few would be good on a tv… I look at the PS Network store now on my vita and am disappointed and this is when I can download and take it mobile with me, what more if I’m at my house where my pc and other consoles are and can’t take the games on the go.. Why would I want to look through a lackluster game catalog with ps1 games and handheld games on my tv.
The PS one games are still 5.99-9.99 each, you could buy a ps1 and good selection of games for cheaper than the price of 4 or 5 ps one games (which they specifically state you are RENTING from them and do not own it when you buy/download from the PS store) the Vita games are expensive as well, some reaching $40+, which to me is well beyond what I will pay for a mobile game, let alone a MOBILE game I’m paying $40 to rent from Sony and paying $100 to stream to my tv.
