Sainsburys-top.jpgSainsbury’s are following in the footsteps of Tesco by launching an own-branded mobile phone network. Teaming up with Vodafone, Mobile by Sainsbury’s will “reward customer loyalty, and offer great quality value-for-money mobile products together with attractive offers.”

A joint venture between Sainsbury’s and Vodafone, the service will be available both through Sainsbury’s brick-and-mortar retail channels and online.

Nectar Points (Sainsbury’s supermarket loyalty scheme) will feature in an as-yet-undisclosed way, though it’s not yet clear how the Mobile by Sainsbury’s tariffs will differ from Vodafone’s.

“We are delighted to announce this partnership. Together with Vodafone, we’ll be able to develop mobile products and services that represent great value for Sainsbury’s customers,” said Justin King, Sainsbury’s CEO.

Sainsbury’s group development director Luke Jensen added, “Our customers trust us to provide top quality products and service at fair prices, and Mobile by Sainsbury’s feels like a natural extension of our brand as well as a great way to reward our customers.”

It’s not the only UK network news to kick the week off. Three have announced plans that could cause a stir in the Pay-As-You-Go market by introducing a revised tariff that sees PAYG customers pay just 1p per MB for data, 3p per minute on calls and 2p per text.
