We’ve truly been spoiled when it comes to game graphics this console generation. From the rolling tundras of Skyrim to the open plains of Red Dead Redemption, from Uncharted’s lush jungles to the city-in-the-sky of Bioshock Infinite, we’ve been taken to some truly incredible places.

We may, however, be on the verge of seeing the release of a game that tops them all. The post-apocalyptic world of The Last Of Us is as beautiful as it is brutal and harrowing, with some of most incredible environments, facial animations and set pieces we’ve ever played through. The world of The Last Of Us may be in tatters, but your eyes will be in heaven, taking in all the detail crammed into this sumptuous world.

Our The Last Of Us review is now live so check it out for our full verdict on the game’s visuals, story, gameplay and more. But before you do, check out this collection of sumptuous The Last Of Us screenshots:

  • to whom it may concern, the slideshow this page uses is awful for my browser/OS (Firefox 22.0 on OSX 10.8.6). the “next” button doesn’t advance the slideshow only, but reloads the whole page, a terrible waste of bandwidth and time. it also, for some reason, scrolls the page halfway down so i’m looking at comments instead of pictures.

  • God of War: Ascension is clearly better looking and it averages around 45fps… shame it was a sub-par game though (it’s not terrible, just not good enough considering the main trilogy average around 95% making them three of the most acclaimed games of all time).

I’ll buy The Last of Us when it hits the bargain bin, didn’t enjoy the demo but I’m curious to see how the full game is.

    • Pretty much every review has scored it a perfect 10/10, plus that demo was part of a beta made in 2011. As in its no where near as good looking as the finished product.

Its because of people like you AAA games like the last of us will probably be replaced by another COD clone in the near future.

    • ye but god of war 3 had fixed camera angles, which means for the most part the rendering budget can be higher because the gamer is only going to see the graphics from one perspective, and not change the camera view erratically, but for games that give complete control of the camera, i think the uncharted and now the last of us easily trumps god of war, although i too loved god of war, but in my opinion i want to see santa monica make a god of war with a free camera, fixed cameras in game are so last last gen, lol

The last of us is GOB SMACKING how much detail they cram into every frame, and i love that its so colorful, and not grey and brown like most games this gen!
It makes me giddy with excitement at the prospect of what naughty dog will achieve on PS4!

  • I’d say it really is.

How Naughty Dog get such great visuals from aged hardware is beyond me.

Other devs whine about the PS3 lacking the power these days, but Naughty Dog create something stunning at a steady 28-30fps.

If the final games looks better than Uncharted 3…yeah, TLOU could easily be the best looking game of the console generation for sure.

  • Don’t know about ‘most beautiful’ as we’ve not had a chance to play the full game yet. The Uncharted Series are the most beautiful games ever on a console atm – wouldn’t be surprised if LOU beats them.

    • Ah, but we HAVE played the full game luckily! We’ll have our full review up later once the embargo lifts, so check back soon!

      • U lucky gamers you! 😀 thanks bud

In your opinion, do you think its more beautiful than the Uncharted Series?

        • It’s a different sort of beautiful – Uncharted dazzles, but The Last Of Us draws you in with detail and atmosphere. Although I know Uncharted is a purposefully fantastic and unreal world, you totally believe in The Last Of Us’ settings.

          • I hear ya, the demo was riveting! Can’t wait to play the game, may have to reserve a full weekend.
