Xbox 720 and PS4 to hit stores in October, reveals Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag director

It looks as though it’s set to be a busy Autumn for gamers, as we’ve just had the biggest hint yet that both the PlayStation 4 AND Xbox 720 will be in stores by October.

Speaking in an interview with Outside Xbox (as seen above), Jean Guesdon, the creative director of Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, revealed that “all the versions” of the game will share the same shipping date.

With Black Flag pencilled in for an October 29 launch in the US, and the game launching on the PS4 and other “next-gen” consoles (i.e the Xbox 720), as well as the current PS3, Xbox 360 and PC systems, it seems as though US gamers will be able to get the next generation of gaming in their hands by October.

With Black Flag launching in the UK on November 1, there may be a slight delay before the new consoles hit stores in Blighty, but rarely (if ever) do system launch titles land on shelves before their accompanying console, so there’s a good chance UK gamers could get the new systems in October too.

Of course, there’s a strong possibility that Guesdon answered the question without even considering the launch dates of the unreleased consoles (we’d expect stringent NDA’s from Sony and Microsoft have all-but brainwashed any revealing details out of his Black Flag PR assaults). But the casual loose-lipped slip would line up with Sony’s own “holiday season 2013” launch plans, a window Microsoft would have to match in order to capitalise on the lucrative Christmas rush.

Only time will tell, but might want to make a note on the October page of your calendars.
