Activision have just revealed the first footage of their first person shooter title based on The Walking Dead zombie series.

Using the hit TV show as inspiration as much as the original comic books, The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct will be developed by Terminal Reality, whose other recent credits include Star Wars Kinect, Def Jam Rapstar, Ghostbusters and Bloodrayne.

The trailer doesn’t give much away aside from some standard first-person shooter weaponry and melee kills. In fact, if we’re to be quite honest, it looks quite bland at the moment, with zombies that don’t look all that frightening and uninteresting suburban environments.

Still, Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead point-and-click adventure took everyone by surprise with just how good it was, and there’s certainly ample room in the fiction of the series to build a strong shooter around. Here’s hoping Terminal Reality pull it off.

No release date is set yet, but expect to see The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct touch down on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 at some point in 2013.
