asus-memo-pad.jpgASUS, tired of seeing Google reaping all the glory for the Nexus 7 tablet which they built, are preparing to launch the ASUS MeMO Pad, a budget-friendly Android Jelly Nean tablet that at $149 is set to rival the popular Nexus 7 slate whose design they helped mastermind.

The MeMO Pad indeed looks very similar to the Google Nexus 7, with its textured back and 7-inch form factor, though it does have a slightly less impressive spec sheet to go along with its lower price.

A 1024 x 600 resolution screen is powered by a 1GHz VIA WM8950 processor backed by 1GB of RAM. 8GB or 16GB storage sizes will be available, which can be expanded by up to 32GB with microSD cards. 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity handles data traffic, with a micro-USB port for charging and syncing content. A 3.5mm headpohne jack and a 1MP-front facing camera round off the spec sheet, while ASUS are also offering 5GB of web storage with their own cloud service with each tablet sold.

Available in white, gray and pink, ASUS have warned customers that the device is a “tablet-only product” suggesting there will be no Nexus 7-like dock add-on, and reminding customers that those looking for a keyboard too will be better serviced with one of their Transformer units.

Aimed at “emerging markets”, those who aren’t too picky about top-end specs could grab a bargain with the MeMO Pad line. For those interested, it’ll launch in the US in April.
