Optimus4XHD-01-580-75.jpgLG have revealed that they’re making substantial progress on the development of slimline optical zooms for their smartphones.

Looking to match the bar raised by Nokia’s PureView Camera tech and Samsung’s unusual Galaxy Camera, the company are working on a mechanical shutter that will allow for better-lit cameraphone shots to be taken.

Jakyung Jeon, Senior Research Engineer from LG’s camera sensor development arm, Innotek, revealed that his team are developing a: “slim optical zoom for the [smartphone] size.”

“We’re looking at developing a 16MP cameraphone sensor as well as working on optical image stabilisation for our sensors,” he added.

“We’ve already completed and ramped up iris and mechanical shutters on cameraphones for another customer too.”

At the continued request of their customers, LG are also looking into adding optical image stabilisation to their smartphone cameras.
