xxx domain.jpgIt’s now illegal to have cybersex in the Philippines. A new law has been passed which makes it a crime to engage in cybersex, no matter whether it’s between two consenting adults, or conducted through a third party such as a professional porn website based in the country.

The bill also forbids “unsolicited commercial communications” online, with inhabitants of the Philippines no longer able to take part in “the willful engagement, maintenance, control, or operation, directly or indirectly, of any lascivious exhibition of sexual organs or sexual activity, with the aid of a computer system, for favor or consideration.”

If it sounds a bit harsh (a prison sentence and fine are possible outcomes of those caught in the act), look at it in the context of the Philippines’ murky sex trade. Forced and underage prostitution is a major problem in the nation, and there’s the suggestion that cybersex activities also play a role in these crimes.

However, the bill still has its detractors, with the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), US-based advocates of a free web, are concerned that the bill infringes on free expression when it affects consenting adults.
