Google’s Android has hit an astonishing landmark, hitting 500 MILLION device activations worldwide, and toting up a further 1.3 million device activations every single day.
It’s a sizeable jump from the 300 million activated Android devices revealed in February this year, which were then being activated at a rate of 850,000 devices a day.
Hugo Barra, Google’s Director of Product Management for Android revealed the figures today via the social network Google+.
Android’s fortunes have no doubt been helped by the long wait for the iPhone 5 launch (expected to be revealed by Apple today), as well as popular Android handsets such as the Samsung galaxy S3 and HTC One X.
It’ll be interesting to see whether or not Android can keep up the momentum once Apple lift the covers off the iPhone 5 tonight.
