“Nokia has more than 40 licensees, mainly for its standards essential patent portfolio, including most of the mobile device manufacturers,” said a Nokia spokesperson.

“Neither Google nor ASUS(the Nexus 7 manufacturers .ed) is licensed under our patent portfolio. Companies who are not yet licensed under our standard essential patents should simply approach us and sign up for a license.”

Rather than push for a sales ban, Nokia are expected to pursue the more lucrative avenue of having ASUS and Google sign up for a patent licence.

Google’s first own-branded tablet, the Nexus 7 is a 7-inch slate, packing a quad-core processor and running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Aggressively priced, it’ll set you back £159 ($199).
