harmon-kardon-cl.jpgHigh-end audio experts Harmon Kardon have launched their first range of own-branded headphones. Inspired by Apple design and distributed by the Cupertino company’s stores, two in-ear, two over-ear and a fifth model touching down in July will be available.

Cheapest of the lot are the Harmon Kardon NI. Setting you back £90, the black earphones weigh just 3g per ear and features a 3 button in-line remote. They also pack in 9mm drivers for wide dynamic range, and three different silicone sleeves for a snug fit for all ear shapes.

Next up are the Harmon Kardon AE in-ears. Similar to the NIs, they have a silver-toned casing which should lead to better acoustic dampening, with inserts that expand to fit the ear canal for passive noise cancellation. They cost £130.

Moving on to the over-ear pairs, first up are the Harmon Kardon CLs. With a sandblasted steel headband with leather padding, the cans themselves are rectangular and designed to mimic the shape of an iPod. 40mm drivers are onboard for better low-frequency performance, recycling information from the back of the driver to enhance the bass levels. No hard wiring here either, with just a 2.5mm jack on the right cup. Yours for £170.

Next are the Bluetooth-enabled Harmon Kardon BT. They have an integrated mic and battery, with a passive mode that allows you to plug in a cabled jack once the 12-hour battery dies. These will set you back £220.

Lastly there’s the Harmon Kardon NC. Details are scarce here, but they’re looking to be the top flight set, being an over-the ear noise cancelling set of cans, retailing in July for £280.

“These headphones are enhanced by several audio technologies developed by HARMAN yet also reflect the brand’s commitment to innovative industrial design,” said Dinesh Paliwal, chairman, president and CEO of HARMAN.

“People who truly appreciate beautiful sound – whether it is on the go or in the living room – should not compromise when it comes to performance. These refined and distinctive headphones are built with the precision that has always defined Harman Kardon’s high-fidelity products.”

The Harman Kardon headphones are now available exclusively at Apple Retail Stores and apple.com.
