iPhone-4s-thumb-3.jpgFoxconn boss Terry Gou has told investors that the iPhone 5 “will put Samsung’s Galaxy S III to shame,” according to the China Times.

Speaking at the annual shareholder’s meeting of the Hon Hai Precision Industry Co (trading as Foxconn), Gou stated that a combination of Foxconn’s manufacturing processes, Apple’s marketing tactics and Sharp’s display technologies will wipe the floor with Samsung’s latest and greatest, and urged consumers to hold out for what his company were putting together next.

Gou even went as far as to claim that Apple and his team will completely wipe Samsung out of the mobile arena in three to five years.

Of course, with Gou so heavily involved in the manufacturing process, it would be unwise for him to say anything different, so the battle between the Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 5 may be a lot closer than he is claiming.

Also, there’s a fair bit of bad blood between Hon Hai and Samsung; Gou accused his Korean competition of snitching when in 2010 Samsung was claimed to have ratted out four Taiwanese manufacturers price fixing flat panel displays. For acting as the stool pigeon, Samsung were made exempt from further action.

  • I won’t underestimate the iPhone 5, they had almost 2 years to research, prepare and also study the competition.

  • Apple has to do more than having a bright new screen and a new faster CPU. Providing an SDslot might be it but there must be new features that others do not have. Wonder what ?. If they can do a Touchless mode when driving, it might be a great small addition some may look to as a “must have”. This is not easy to do with their minimalistic functions: Hold, Reject, Answer, send canned SMS message.
Most would think a new screen means a larger phone and that seems likely. Can they keep the weight down on this handset ?. Using polycarbonate bonded to thin steel strips might just do it for strength for the back cover. A 3D capable camera would be a nice gimmick. There is not much else, unless they wanted to do a mobile Kinect clone ?.

     enable bluetooth file transfer *out-of-the-box*???
Upgrade the ancient screen to Super AMOLED, 720 x 1280 pixels???
Increase the CPU to 1500 MHz??
or how about giving it a SD card slot??
