Harry_Potter-kinect.jpgThe world’s most famous wizard, Harry Potter, will return to the world of videogames in an Xbox 360 Kinect-powered exclusive this Autumn, Warner Bros. have today revealed.

Taking in scenes from all eight of the Harry Potter films based on J. K. Rowling’s massively popular book series, players will join Harry, Ron and Hermione on a series of adventures, using the peripheral’s motion-tracking and voice recognition capabilities to cast spells with hand gestures or by simply calling out their names.

“Harry Potter for Kinect will engage Harry Potter fans old and new by bringing them into the wizarding world as truly active participants,” said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production and Development, Warner Bros.

“Kids and parents will enjoy recreating their favourite Harry Potter adventures, from flying a broomstick in a Quidditch match, to battling pixies and duelling other wizards.”

For the first time ever in a Harry Potter game, players will also be able to customise their own unique wizard, using the Kinect’s photo-capturing abilities to scan in their faces and add them to their in-game avatars. We wouldn’t be surprised if this results in characters looking a little bit more like Voldemort than Cedric Diggory…

Co-op multiplayer and mini-game modes are also confirmed.

It’s a great time to be one of those people with a rare passion for witchcraft, wizardry and motion-controlled gaming. As well as this Harry Potter announcement, we’ve recently seen the release of the excellent Move-based game Sorcery for the PS3, while Fable: The Journey sits just over the horizon for Xbox 360 owners.
