After a 12 year wait since the last full instalment in the series, PC gamers across the globe are now clicking their mice into submission with Diablo III, the hack-and-slash dungeon crawler for Blizzard. For nearly as long have been rumours of a console version to complement the desktop edition, but now the fate of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions looks uncertain.

Speaking to Gamasutra, the game’s director Jay Wilson said “we’re not sure yet whether we think it will work, and whether we think we have the resources to do it.”

Right now, it all seems to be hanging on the quality of the staff Blizzard manage to employ for the project. “The better people we hire, the better chance we have to actually make it,” explained Wilson.

However, with things still seemingly at the early development stages (as suggested by the need for more staff), it’ll be some time until we see Diablo III on consoles, if at all.

  • Blizzard developers will never do it.  This is unfortunate because most buyers don’t own gaming PCs. This could mark the end of an era for Blizzard.

  • They are trying to say they do not have the money to do it? Or able to hire people that can do it? That’s a load of bull. They make billions a year in profits. More then enough to do what ever you wanted with this game. But all they have done is make it a pile of trash. After years and years of making the game. This is what we get? Looks like Blizzard is just another greedy pig out to get all you money. They had a good run, guess everything has to die some time.

    •  Good people are hard to find.  Given blizzard’s record of making best-of-the-best genre- bending games, I suspect that Blizzard usually only hires the best of the best.   The thing is, these people are rare.  I’ve worked in the software dev world for about 12 years.

      On a usual software company
30% are completely useless.  better to pay them to stay home
another 30% do about 5% of the work
the next 30% do about 50% of the work
and the last 10% do the other 45% of the work.  This is also the hardest 45% of the work.

The harder the project, the more leaned this is,  You might have 1 or 2 people do half the work on a 50-person team.  It’s just the way of the world.  Game development is a job requiring tremendous talent, skill, and dedication.  People capable of doing THAT job at the level blizzard wants are probably 0.0001%

So hiring is not so easy.

  • Blizzard will not have my money for this game until they release on xbox.   It’s that simple.   Thanks for the good times in the past,  but it’s time to get with the current gaming market.
