More evidence has arisen that suggests Apple are planning on popping their super high resolution Retina Display technology into this year’s MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models.

Digging away at the latest developer version of Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, Apple detectives have uncovered a number of places where app icons are being displayed at double the usual resolution.

Popping up in “erroneous” places according to the developer, it appears that the new app icons are in preperation for the inclusion of high pixel-density screens, similar to those which have wowed iPhone fans and impressed on the new iPad.

“I would interpret it to mean that Retina is close; perhaps concurrent with the release of OS X 10.8,” said the developer.

Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion is expected to be revealed at WWDC 2012, rumoured to be taking place on June 6th at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. As well as potentially bringing with it support for Retina Displays in laptops, the new OS also adds Messages, Notifications, Reminders and integrated Twitter support to the operating system.
