Next-gen colour and flexible E-Ink displays coming in 2012
E-Ink Holdings, the company behind the eminently-readable Kindle E-Ink displays, have revealed they are working on their next generation of e-Reader displays.
As well as revamped colour offerings, the company are also looking to release flexible plastic-based E-Ink screens by Q3 of the year, potentially giving e-Reader manufacturers the possibility of making a foldable e-Reader before the year is out.
However, contrary to the recent rumour that Amazon are gearing up for the launch of a colour touchscreen Kindle using E-Ink technology, E-Ink Holding’s Chairman, Scott Lu said that the company upping production of its Triton colour E-Ink product. Rather than killing off the rumoured Kindle colour, it may just point to the fact that E-Ink Holdings superior next-gen display is what is being held out for.
Posting their financial results for 2011, E-Ink Holdings revealed $220 million in net profit, up 59% compared to 2010. Gross margin in 4Q fell compared to the last quarter due to a rise in FFS panel shipments for the Kindle Fire, which offer lower margins when compared to EPD products.

The volume of electronic ink screen itself is very thin, very good to reduce the thickness and weight of the fuselage, in addition to its power consumption is very small, so the choice of the battery.

The future is GPD = Gel Plastic Display or GCD = Gel Converting Display that can convert into curve cuting edge hexagonal or octagonal display screen producing real images at full range’s.
when are they going to make a real A4/Letter-oriented Gel Display screen of at least 11.5 inch diagonal.
all I know is I AM GETTING ONE. Color – eink – 1600×1200 resolution. YES finally can read magazines improves its resolution considerably and reading will not be a problem and the experience will be much richer.
100 million colors of Trasparent layers of diffrent shapes of pixel overlaping each other for great quality and rich contrast of graphical real nature images.
Its 2012 and they have to try a little harder to remove the flashing and refresh rate to make it limitless.
Gel is the way to the future.
Gel display is the future for all display like real life like images that you when magnify that close it is unknown to see any pixel.
Gel display will be the Future for real color kindle but what is taking so long, the fact that amazon is hiding some technology.
In the future gel ink display is the best colour display.
