HTC’s first tablet attempt, the stylus-packing Flyer (pictured), was a so-so effort, but it looks as though they’ll be pulling out all the stops for a follow-up slate. Set to launch early in 2012, it’s rumoured that the mobile giant’s are preparing a quad-core tablet device.

Alongside the tablet will be two top-spec smartphones, according to DigiTimes, adding fuel to the fire that the devices will likely launch at the Mobile World Congress show in February, with the potential for a sneek peek during CES in Las Vegas next January.

It’s been a busy few weeks for quad-core tablet rumours. First Asus lifted the lid on their Transformer Prime effort, then whispers began to stir regarding a 10-inch quad-core effort from Lenovo.

If the raft of rumoured quad-core tablets come to be, it marks a true turning point for the tablet market. Quad-core devices would allow for significantly more intensive processing tasks to be carried out, making the tablets just as viable as work-orientated machines as they are entertainment products.
