Android-Ice-Cream-Sandwich-banner.jpgHTC have now confirmed that many of their handsets will be making the jump to the new Android version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system.

After a fair few Android-upgrade hitches in the past, HTC took a fair amount of time looking at the new OS before jumping in and confirming they will indeed be updating many of their Android smartphones.

“Since Google unveiled Ice Cream Sandwich earlier this week, HTC has been looking closely at the new OS’s features and functionality to determine our upgrade plan,” reads the HTC statement.

“We’re a recognised industry leader in providing fast and consistent upgrades to our Android devices, and Ice Cream Sandwich will be no different.”

“Upgrades require a careful balance of hardware and software to ensure the best possible performance and usability, so please stay tuned as we assess our product portfolio,”

“Our goal is to upgrade as many HTC devices as possible and we’ll be sharing details on specific devices and timing in the coming weeks!”

Expect to see the upgrade come to higher-spec HTC handsets first like the HTC Sensation, and HTC Desire S, though we’d doubt older hadsets like the HTC Desire or lower spec offerings like the Wildfire will make the jump. It’ll be interesting to see if HTC bring the update to their Flyer tablet though.

Either way, lets hope the eventual OS boosts won’t replicate the Android Gingerbread fiasco that HTC owners had to suffer.
