Android-Ice-Cream-Sandwich-banner.jpgEric Schmidt, Google Chairman and ex-CEO has revealed that the next major Android release, dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich, will launch in October or November.

Speaking to SalesForce.com at the Dreamforce conference, Schmidt noted that Google’s latest OS may be ready sooner than analysts initially speculated.

Though a build number for Android Ice Cream Sandwich has not yet been given, nor specifics of the OS detailed, Google’s next gen mobile operating system is expected to build upon the work made in the Honeycomb-tablet orientated build of the OS, obviously catering more for smartphones this time around.

Android releases usually coincide with the launch of reference hardware, and everything this time around is pointing towards that handset being the Nexus Prime. However, Schmidt’s release estimates have been known to be off by weeks, if not months, in the past, so we’ll wait and see just how long we’ll have hold on for digital vienetta.
