The Motorola XOOM is a pretty nifty Android tablet, one of the few dual-core units available and the first to ship with the tablet-optimised Android Honeycomb. However, despite being on sale for only a little over three months, it seems that its successor is already on the way.

Fudzilla are reporting that the Motorola XOOM 2 is already being tested, sporting a NVIDIA quad-core Kal-El chip, capable of powering the XOOM 2’s reported 2048×1536 display.

The tablet is also rumoured to be Android 4.0 ready, squeezing in Google’s latest mobile OS when it launches.

Though the original sold relatively poorly, if Motorola could get a quad-core XOOM out of the door quickly enough it could be a real knockout tablet.
