Cinephiles look set to be getting a little gift from Apple before the year is out, with the rumour doing the rounds that full HD 1080p video downloads will be hitting the iTunes movie download portal in the coming months.

Fans of high definition video have often bemoaned the lack of full HD video on the Apple video store, who currently only sell 480p standard def vids and 720p HD films.

However AppleInsider has uncovered documentation that suggests that a handful of movies launching this Autumn on the store will offer an “optional 1920 x 1080” resolution, bringing the store up to 1080p full HD standards.

The news furthers rumours that a new version of the Apple TV box is in the works, with a faster processor that can handle 1080p video. The current version, packing the A4 chip, is only capable of playing 720p video.
