Record label deals inked in run up to Apple iCloud launch

Apple have signed licensing agreements with EMI Music, according to Cnet, with similar deals just over the horizon with Universal and Sony Music in the run up to the rumoured launch of their cloud-based streaming service.

Cnet cite “multiple music industry sources” in the findings, claiming that the digital locker service will scan a user’s media library for relevant metadata before offering up digital versions of the same files. In what must be a relief for those with gigs’ worth of songs and movies, it would negate the need for uploading thousands of files, instead simply streaming the corresponding versions stored on Apple’s servers.

It’s expected that a subscription will be required to access the service, which would allow you to stream tracks to any iOS device.

With Apple’s WWDC event scheduled for next month, we may finally see the iCloud service hit the skies.
