The HTC Flyer tablet is now up for grabs direct from the Taiwan-based manufacturer. Head on over to www.htcflyerstore.com and you’ll be greeted by their orders page, where the 7 inch Android Gingerbread tablet can be bought.

£479.99 will grab the 16GB Wi-Fi only model, while a stonking £599.99 will get you a 3G enabled model with 32GB of storage space. “Powered by Expansys”, the online gadget retailer now seems to have early access to HTC gear.

So how do those prices compare to the competition? Well, not all that favourably actually. When you compare the 32GB 3G Flyer against the equivalent 32GB 3G Motorola Xoom available from the Carphone Warehouse, you’re paying an extra £20 for the HTC machine.

That’s despite it being a single-core offering, running Gingerbread rather than the tablet-centric Honeycomb version of Android and being a full 3 inches smaller than the Xoom’s 10.1 inch screen.

Essentially, you’re paying a premium for stylus input and HTC’s superb Sense UI.

You pays your monies, you makes your choice…
